Organization- The organization process is as it sounds where an individual organizes the things (tasks, or objects) around them. Someone with poor organization skills often appears messy or 'un'organized as far as having things all over the place. This will appear in education as a student who has difficulty keeping track of their homework, whose desk is always a mess, or can't seem keep their train of thought when remembering things.
Grouped Organizational Systems
Establishing a class wide system of organization whether it be folders or bins is an efficient way to keep track of all important elements of the students' education. For individuals who struggle with keeping organized, having unanimous places to keep assignments, or the table's materials will create a culture behind 'where things go'. By creating systems of organization early into the students' lives will lead to further success as the individual transfers these systems into their own lives outside of school.
Individualized Organization Systems |
In my PS III classroom, my mentor assigned a number to each student at the beginning of the year, which in the long run, eliminates the majority of the issues dealing with organization in the classroom. Each student is also given a water cup, mail box and banana box with their number on it. By having their own water cup and our class water cooler, students are able to get up when I am not instructing and get their water without fighting over whose is whose and spilling water all over the tables. Students also have a banana box, where they put unfinished work and a mailbox where they put work that is completed and supposed to go home to parents. Along with these three organizational devices, students also are given fun books (correlated to the curriculum) and printing books, so whenever they are unsure of what they can do, they immediately refer to one of these booklets or their banana box. This system has helped me tremendously throughout my practicum experience, to where I can set up my day and not worry about small organizational issues that often turn up in the every day classroom.
